Roles for Reading: who does what?
As we work through these texts- it will be important for us to gain some knowledge from outside sources. I think delegating this work will be best.
The Historian (Also known as a DRAMATURG) : 1 or 2 of us will need to be in charge of keeping track of the history of the time period. For example- when was the play written and when was the play set? Is there a reason the playwrite is writing in the past? Does it connect to our present? If it is set in the time period it was written- what impact would it have had on the original audience of this play?
The Dramatic Theorist: 1 or 2 of us will need to be in charge of looking up what the current trends in acting and play writing were at the time. What was the LENS and THEME the playwright was trying to explore? How did they work to do this?
The Modern Day Actors: 1 or 2 of us will need to look at this play as performers in this day and age. How do you go about making this work feel truthful onstage to a modern audience? What parts of these ancient characters can we bring to life?
The Director/Designers: 1 or 2 of us will need to look at this play as a Director and Designer. How would we go about staging this play? Do we have to keep the "style" of Greek acting or is there a way to stay true to the text but still have a more modern point of view?
