Introduction
What is design?
Elements of Design are things that are involved when making a design. There are quite a few design elements- but we will focus on THREE of them during this project! What is GREAT about design elements is that they give us very clear things to think and talk about!!!
Our four design elements are:
Color is an easy one. Color is EASY to identify and connect to emotions. Think about walking into a room with black walls vs. walking into a room with white walls. What feelings do you think you'd have?
Texture helps your design to be distinctive or have identifying character and characteristics. Rough, smooth, silky, course, fine, spiky...sometimes texture words overlap with emotions words. Sometimes a person's attitude is rough and spiky! What does texture help you think about?
Shape/Size: This makes the design more complex. Often we will just do a piece of art work on a square piece of paper- but would a circle, triangle or abstract shape be a better choice? What do shapes help us feel? Does making something bigger or smaller help us gain meaning from looking at it?
Look around the room, find any object and grab it! Bring it to the circle!
1. What design elements can you describe in this object?
2. Can you start making connections between the design elements and how they make you feel when you look at these objects?
3. What could you do to those objects to utilize the design elements even more- so that when your classmates looks at them, they REALLY feel something?

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1. What design elements really stood out to the audience? What did they talk about the most? Why do you think they focused on that element?
2. What is one thing that you wish you could have changed about your project to make it clearer or more emotional for your audience?
3. Why do you think we are so obsessed with monsters? What do monsters represent?
