LAUNCH:
The Crown Heights Riots VIDEO and VIDEO
Check-In: Create a class time line so we’re clear about what happened.
Interview Activity: Grab a partner- using your phones or the computer to video tape them answering ONE of the following questions. When you’re done, write down EXACTLY what your partner said- share it with me along with the video.
1.Which group is more marginalized- Orthodox Jewish People or Black Americans? Why/How?
2.How do we know when TRUE justice has been served?
Part 1:
What is ETHNOGRAPHY?
Ethnography is when you take real life interviews and experiences and utilize theater conventions to create a unique piece of theater. Here is my example of the work you did yesterday. (The Laramie Project and Fires in the Mirror are Modern Examples)
This type of theater is also referred to as DOCUMENTARY THEATRE.

Part 2:
Ethnography chat: Who thinks they crafted something DRASTICALLY different from mine? Or, at least ISN’T about justice.
Reflection Questions:
What techniques did you classmates use to craft their mini-ethnography? Was there one that made a big impact? Why?
PART 3:
What is POST-MODERNISM?
Can someone come up and draw me the structure of a story?
Can someone draw the structure of my ethnography?
CHAT: What other things can you point out that are post-modernist? Movies? Music? Literature?
What makes you catagorize it in that way?
How is ethnography post-modernist? Does it always have to be?
Part 4: Inspiration!
What do we want to explore? What topics are on our minds?
Idea dump into three categories: HOT TOPICS/CURRENT EVENTS, CREATIVE QUESTIONS, WEIRD IDEAS
Mini-Lesson: How do we get started on a project like ethnography? We have our topics…now what?
